Why The Required Skills of Managing Up & Down are Important - Fall Workshop Series
WHY THE REQUIRED SKILLS OF MANAGING UP AND DOWN ARE IMPORTANT
Instructor: Mike Zahniser, BBSI
Description: Employees must communicate continuously upward to management, as well as, to their front-line supervisors or staff in the other direction. Likewise, nonprofits must ensure effective communication to their Board of Directors. The skills necessary to engage their management/board, front line reports and peers is invaluable and not optional to their success. At the same time, the skills to delegate, plan, organize and follow-up are vital to their consistent and continuous success!
There's no one-size-fits all approach to managing up, but when you become intentional about your interactions with your manager/board you can learn how to more effectively approach discussions, get buy-in, and rally your support when it’s needed.
Bio: As a Human Resource Consultant at BBSI and President-Elect for Southwest Washington Society of Human Resource Management (SW SHRM), Mike is a recognized Thought Leader and Influencer in the Human Capital game with over 16 years as a Human Resource Expert.
Outside of his work he is a committed philanthropist. Mike, his entrepreneurial wife and their three monstrous boys are hooked on a cold and wet life; on the water in the summer or on slopes in the winter.

About the 2019 Fall Workshop Series "FOSTERING GROWTH IN THE WORKPLACE"
Most people recognize that employees are a company’s greatest asset. Their skills and motivation have a profound impact on our bottom line, yet according to a recent Gallup Poll only 30% of all U.S. workers are engaged in their positions. Even more alarming is the strikingly low percentage -- just 35% -- of U.S. managers themselves are engaged, while 51% are not engaged and 14% are actively disengaged.
What does this mean? This means there is an opportunity for every employee, supervisor, solopreneur, and leader to learn necessary skills that can foster growth and create engagement in the workplace.
If you are seeking ways to develop your employees/key leaders, grow revenues, improve your processes or increase your customer satisfaction and retention, you’ve come to the right place.
GVCC members have access to a series of workshops intended to provide skills and insight into the challenge’s businesses face today. Each workshop is designed to deliver information succinctly, with practical examples and an abundance of discussion.
